Seedling watering a young tree on a green hill

Our mission

We think AI should give something back

So Sprout plants real trees. Here's our goal and how it works.

Our goal

1,000,000 trees

We're just getting started. The live count begins with our first planting batch, and every tree after that shows up right here.

Why we started Sprout

AI has become part of everyday life. We ask it to write emails, explain homework, plan trips and figure out what to cook tonight. We love it too.

But all those chats got us thinking. What if they could do some good as well? Not a donation button, and not a guilt trip. Just the AI you already use, giving something back.

That's Sprout. The same smart answers you're used to. And as people chat, we plant real trees.

How we estimate CO₂, oxygen and land

Your forest shows how much CO₂ your trees take in and how much oxygen they give off each year once grown, and how much land they cover. Here's where those numbers come from.

We start from our planting partner's figure for how much CO₂ one of their trees takes in a year once it's grown, for the species and places they plant. We multiply that by the number of trees in your forest.

A growing tree keeps the carbon from the CO₂ it takes in and gives off the oxygen: about 0.73 kg of oxygen for every kg of CO₂. That's where the oxygen number comes from.

For land, we use how closely our partner plants: the area one tree takes up, times your trees.

These are estimates. Young trees take in less, and real forests vary. The numbers describe the trees, not Sprout: we don't claim they cancel out anyone's emissions.

Our promises

  • Every tree counted

Each tree earned is its own entry in our ledger. No rounding, no estimates.

  • Planted every month

Trees go in the ground in monthly batches, each with a certificate from our partner.

  • Nothing we can't show

We share tree counts, certificates and how we estimate CO₂. No fuzzy promises about saving the planet.
